Alongside her design work, Martha Garland is a handwork teacher and craft curriculum coordinator and advisor. Through the value of her own education, she is committed to the preservation, promotion and modernisation of traditional and rural crafts.

Martha identifies that there is a huge absence of practical skills available to children and adults. With the rise of technology, the effects on children's fine motor skills is already strikingly apparent - and detrimental to their self-relience and social wellbeing.

Following the Steiner-Waldorf pedagogy, Martha teaches at Steiner Schools across London.  She also coordinates  and delivers  practical craft curriculums externally, holds regular workshops, consults and advises fellow educators, and teaches several adult courses across London - all following the same ethos; which is to encourage the development of the self, through the arts. Where creative energy is released, where willpower is transformed into beautiful forms, where colour is understood to create harmony, and where understanding or practice encourages confidence and accomplishment.

During the online learning period of the pandemic, Martha created

a complete digitalised handwork curriculum accessible to students and parents. This includes printable pdfs, step by step video tutorials as well as links to all resources, and galleries of completed work.

Having received international recognition and feedback on the platform, it has remained open as a resource. For subscription memberships please contact via email.
